Studio Humuhumu took its name from the Hawaiian state fish, 'Humuhumunukunukuapua'a.' The studio is a two-member team. Kim Jinman embarked on his journey as a stop-motion animator back in 2003 with his project, 'Bologee Story,' while Chon Jiyoung pursued a career as a children's book editor at a publishing company. Fate brought Jinman and Jiyoung together when they met while Jinman was working on 'Indra’s Net' (2009) at the underground studio, B01 . After tying the knot, they decided to rename the studio to 'Humuhumu.' Their debut work under this new name was 'Noodle Fish' (2012), and 'Dancing Frog' (2018) marked the culmination of Jinman's exploration of life's themes.

The year 2022 proved to be a pivotal moment for Studio Humuhumu. They co-directed a short animation 'The Cave' and a web animation series 'Hu and Mu, Dust Fairies,' with human-like characters taking the lead. As they put the finishing touches on the mid-length animation 'Poppy, the Tail Goblin' (working title), they also embarked on the preparation of a short film, tentatively titled 'Wait Here,' inspired by their adopted stray dog, Janggun, who joined their family in January 2023. Their workspace has now found its place on the top floor of a building, featuring a room dedicated to puppet-making and video editing, as well as various drawers brimming with props and materials scattered throughout their home. The rooftop, connected to their living space, has been transformed into a garden where they cultivate seasonal veggies like eggplants, peppers, and grapes. When needed, it doubles as an outdoor set for their creative endeavors. In the midst of it all, they lead a joyful life, crafting stories.
