엄청 느린 나무처럼
<빈방>(2016)을 발표한 뒤 정다희는 웹애니메이션에 도전했다. 2017년에 만든 <상대성이론>은 서로 다른 속도의 캐릭터들이 걷고 보고 일하는 세 편의 에피소드로 구성됐다. <움직임의 사전>(2019)은 그 웹 시리즈를 발전시킨 결과다. 엄청 느린 나무와 느린 나무, 보통 속도의 인간과 빠른 개와 뒤로 가는 인간이 등장한다. 2019년 인디애니페스트 대상 ‘인디의 별' 수상자로서 영화제 전통에 따라 만든 이듬해의 트레일러 <Who aRe you>(2020)는 한국, 프랑스, 캐나다 3국 공동 제작 프로젝트 <옷장 속 사람들>의 계기가 된다. 소유물을 통해 소유자의 정체를 탐구하는 이야기가 될 것이다. 이제까지 정다희의 작업이 홀로 집중하는 작고 정적인 과정이었다면 <옷장 속 사람들>은 국내외 다양한 창작자들과 협업하는 크고 역동적인 과정이 될 것이다. 하루에 2초씩 애니메이션을 만드는 정다희는 꾸준히 자라며 가지를 뻗는다.
Like a Slow-moving Tree
After releasing her short film The Empty (2016), JEONG Dahee created the web animation Theory of Relativity in 2017, consisting of three episodes in which each of the characters walks, sees, and works at a different speed and pace. She further developed this web series into the short film Movements (2019). There is a slow tree and a very slow tree. There’s a person with a normal speed and a fast-moving dog, as well as a person who moves backwards in time. Director Jeong won the Star of Indie Grand Prize at Indie-AniFest 2019. Following the festival’s tradition, she created the following year’s festival trailer Who aRe you (2020). It led to a co-production between Korea, France, and Canada to produce the upcoming film People in the Closet. This will be a story about exploring people’s identities through their personal belongings. Whereas Jeong’s previous works have focused on her own artistic vision, People in the Closet will be a large-scale and dynamic collaboration between diverse creators from Korea and abroad. Making two seconds of animation each day, Jeong continues to grow and branch out like a steadily growing tree.

In the woman’s room, memories constantly accumulate and disappear like dust. The man spends his time in this room creating futile little games with the woman’s memories.

Observing the life cycles of trees, I could imagined differences and resemblances between trees and humans. This film is a collection of stories that are inspired by these various lives.
