캣클로 CATCLAW

혼란스러운 마음을 다스리기 위해 걷기로 한 280일간의 세계 여행길에서 떠올린 하나의 아이디어는 서새롬 감독의 이세계 여행과 기이한 존재와의 만남으로 가득한 <세계의 희귀 동물들>(2018--2019) 시리즈가 되었다. 말레이시아 인기 관광 상품이라며 소개하는 페이크 다큐멘터리 <육식콩나물>(2021)이 여기서 솟아났다. 대학 동기인 배이삭을 포섭하여 시리즈를 마무리하고 냥냥단 이름으로 만든 단편이다.

2023년 9월 인터뷰

<22세기 인간>(2023)은 공간 대신 시간 이동을 한다. 기술 발달과 기후위기라는 현실 조건 속에 있을 법한 미래를 그렸다. 거기서 <스위밍>(2023)이 뻗어 나왔다. ‘스위밍’은 불특정 다수에게 개인의 무의식을 개방한 소셜네트워크의 이름이다. 새롬 말로 세상을 지어내면 이삭이 선과 색으로 구체적인 형태를 부여한다. 13가지 언어로 다양한 생물이 사는 세계를 소개한 바 있는 그들은 100년 후의 언어로 아랍어를 선택했다. <스위밍>이 더 뻗어나가 아랍 여성 영웅물이 될 때까지 중동의 소소한 문화를 알아가는 인스타툰을 만들 계획이다. 전대미문의 세계로 떠나는 팀의 새 이름은 캣클로다.

2023년 11월 인터뷰

During a 280-day journey around the world, undertaken to clear her perplexed mind, a single idea took root and blossomed into the series World of Rare Animals (2018-2019). This series was filled with Director Seo Saerom's exploration of encounters with peculiar beings. The emergence of Carnivorous Bean Sprouts (2021), a mockumentary introducing popular tourist attractions in Malaysia, had its origins here. She collaborated with her university friend Bae Isaac and created this short film under the name "Meow Swarm" after concluding the series.

In the 22nd Century Human (2023) delves into time rather than space. It envisions a future that could exist within the context of ongoing technological advancements and the looming climate crisis. It was from this point that Swimming (2023) emerged. 'Swimming' is the moniker of a social network that unlocks one's subconscious to general people. While Saerom constructs worlds with words, Isaac concretizes them with lines and colors. Having previously introduced a world where diverse creatures exist in 13 different languages, they decided to adopt Arabic as the language of the future. Their plan is to create an Instagram comic series that explores the lesser-known cultures of the Middle East until Swimming expands and evolves into an Arab female hero saga. The team's new name for their unprecedented journey is "Catclaw."

In the near future, even the subconscious mind can’t be hidden from the public eye of social media. This fake documentary drama tells the story of a user of the real-time subconscious access app “Swimming” who tries to alter the subconscious thoughts of their ex-lover but ultimately blows up their own subconscious instead.
