그리고 그리고 그리고
무더운 여름 앞서 걷는 이의 검은 옷에서 작은 틈새를 발견하고 자유의 크기를 생각했던 <당신을 초대하고 싶습니다>, 제 몸도 제 마음대로 할 수 없이 미약한 존재일지라도 있는 그대로 소중하다고 말해 주고 싶었던 <상상치도 못한 일>, 추운 겨울 온몸을 녹여주었던 커피의 온기에서 출발해 끝없는 고난을 벗어나 행복을 찾아가는 <그 카페>, 보온병과 믹스커피가 든 가방을 들고 다니며 어디서나 한 잔의 여유를 즐기던 엄마를 주인공으로 한 <나와 승자>까지 김아영은 넉넉지 않은 형편이 허용하는 약간의 자유를 자신을 들여다 보고 타인을 비추는 데 쓴다. 별명은 굼벵이지만 어느새 <두꺼운 옷을 입은 여자와 채찍을 든 남자>도 만들었고 아빠를 주인공으로 한 <나와 재일>도 시작했다. 그다음은 자매들과 남편 차례다. 이 시리즈는 자신의 거울상과 함께 마무리할 계획이다. 기회가 된다면 장편으로 못다 한 <그 카페> 이야기를 하려고 한다. 김아영은 느린 걸음으로 계속 나아갈 것이다.
Slow and Steady
KIM Ayoung’s works invite us to look deep within ourselves and at reflections of others. They show a small slice of freedom that can be found in circumstances of want and hardship. In her short animation I Want to Invite You, we see a tiny gap in the woman’s black clothing which she must wear even in the sweltering summer. It makes us wonder about the size of that slice of freedom. In Something Unexpected, we see a frail character who can’t control her own body, but she is still precious just as she is. The Cafe was inspired by a warm cup of coffee in the cold winter, and the film embarks on a difficult journey that ultimately leads to happiness. In SeungJa and Me, the main character is a mother who always carries a bag with a thermos and instant coffee so that she can enjoy the luxury of a cup of coffee everywhere she goes. Kim’s nickname was “white grub” but she worked hard to complete her latest film A Woman in Thick Clothes and a Man with a Whip, and she has already begun another project, JaeIl and Me, in which the main character is her father. The following stories will be about siblings and a husband. This series will conclude with a mirror view of the director herself. Kim hopes for the opportunity to tell the rest of the untold story from The Cafe as a feature-length film. She will continue to move forward with a slow and steady pace.
